Pages and Keynote files from a Mac, and Sketch design files, have no app to open them on Windows. Fortunately these files store a preview image inside. This page pulls out that preview so you can see what the document is right away.
How to use it
- 1Click 'Choose PAGES files' or drop files onto the page (.key and .sketch too).
- 2Preview images appear in the grid; click one to view it large. Keynote shows the first slide, Pages the first page.
- 3To edit the content, ask the sender for a .docx, .pptx, or PDF export, or export from Pages or Keynote on a Mac.
What it shows
The file (a ZIP bundle) is opened and preview.jpg or preview.png, iWork '09's QuickLook/Thumbnail.jpg or Preview.pdf (first page rendered), and Sketch's previews/preview.png are looked for in turn. It's the image the app stored at save time, so it reflects the last save.
Files are read inside the browser only and never sent anywhere. Close the tab and nothing remains.
Limits
Body text, all the slides, and layers aren't shown — just the single preview image. Files saved with 'Include preview' off, or iCloud placeholder files whose content hasn't been downloaded, have no preview and show a notice. Preview resolution is whatever the app chose (usually around 1000 px on the long side), so it blurs when zoomed.
Good for
Seeing what a Pages or Keynote attachment from a Mac user contains on Windows, picking out Sketch files in a design folder, and checking whether a file is the one you need before asking for a conversion.
Frequently asked questions
Can I read the Pages text?+
This viewer shows only the preview image. For the text, export .docx or PDF from Pages on a Mac, or open it in the Pages web app at iCloud.com.
It says there is no preview.+
'Include preview' was off when saving (Pages preferences), or the file is an iCloud Drive placeholder whose content wasn't downloaded. Re-save on the Mac or download it fully, then try again.
Can I see the other Keynote slides?+
The preview is the first slide only. For everything, export PDF or .pptx from Keynote and open it in the PDF or PowerPoint viewer.
