When it comes in handy
Cropping and brightening a photo before posting, adding an arrow and a note to an error screenshot for support, or shrinking an image to a forum's size limit.
It suits the small jobs that aren't worth opening Photoshop for but need a better result than Paint.
Tips per tool
Crop by dragging a region; rotate in 90° steps and flip horizontally or vertically. With the aspect-ratio lock on, resizing one dimension keeps the image undistorted. Brightness, contrast, and saturation are sliders with a live preview.
Annotations (text in any script, rectangles, arrows, pen) can be dragged into place. Stack as many edits as you like and save once.
Formats and quality
JPG is smallest for photos; PNG keeps transparency and crisp text and lines; WebP is a good choice for the web. JPG loses a little on every save, so keep work-in-progress as PNG and export JPG at the end.
Photoshop PSD and Illustrator files can be opened, edited, and saved too; layers are flattened on open.
