How to use it

Why does it come as a ZIP?
For security reasons a browser cannot set the dates of a file it downloads. No such web capability exists, which is why any download from any website carries the time you received it.
ZIP files, however, store a timestamp with each entry. So exporting a ZIP with your chosen date embedded means the date is restored onto the file when you unzip it.
If the extra step bothers you, use the command shown on the page — it sets the dates on the file directly.
How far it goes
The modified date works in every environment.
The created date works on macOS when you set a date in the past, and with tools like 7-Zip, WinRAR, or Bandizip that read the ZIP's NTFS timestamps. Windows' built-in extractor may set only the modified date.
The command shown on the page sets created and modified reliably, and on macOS it also sets the 'Date Added' that Finder shows in list view.
Finder's “Date Added” is a different value
If the 'Date Added' column is on in Finder's list view, it still shows today even after you change the created and modified dates. That column records when the file arrived in that folder, so it changes every time you move the file.
To see your chosen date in the list, right-click the column header and turn on 'Date Created' or 'Date Modified'. Or use the command on the page, which sets 'Date Added' as well.
