This browser doesn't support the folder-open dialog, so the standard folder picker is used. Files are read only on your device.

AIFF is the Mac's uncompressed audio format, and most files exported from GarageBand or Logic use it. Windows and Chrome can't play AIFF. This page converts AIFF and AIF to MP3 on your device and plays them.

How to use it

  1. 1Click 'Choose AIFF files' or drop an audio folder onto the page.
  2. 2Click a file in the grid and it converts to MP3 on your device (fast, since it's uncompressed — a few seconds for a 4-minute track).
  3. 3Playback starts when conversion ends. ← → for the next file, details under ⓘ.

How it works

The AIFF's PCM data (8, 16, 24, or 32-bit, big-endian) and AIFF-C (compressed variants) are read by ffmpeg.wasm and turned into a 192 kbps MP3 playback copy. The copy lives in memory only and the original isn't touched.

Files are read inside the browser only and never sent anywhere. Close the tab and nothing remains.

Limits

The playback copy is MP3, so it's lossy — fine for checking, but review masters in an app that supports the original. High-resolution audio (24-bit/96 kHz) plays back as 44.1/48 kHz MP3. Markers and loop points in the file aren't shown.

Good for

Checking an AIFF attachment from a Mac on Windows, skimming a recordings folder, and hearing what a file is before converting to MP3 or WAV.

Frequently asked questions

Is converting to WAV lossless?+

Yes. Choose AIFF → WAV or FLAC in the Audio Converter tool and it stays lossless. Only this page's playback copy is MP3.

Doesn't Safari play AIFF directly?+

Safari can, but this viewer always uses the converted copy so behavior is the same in every browser.

Preparation takes long.+

That's the one-time download of the conversion engine (about 30 MB) on first use. After that it's cached and a track takes a few seconds.
