X-ray, CT, and MR images on a hospital CD are DICOM (.dcm) files that ordinary photo apps can't open, and the viewer bundled on the CD is often Windows-only or blocked from running. This page shows DICOM straight in the browser, with window/level controls and multi-image paging, and the files never leave your device.
How to use it
- 1Drop the CD's image folder (usually DICOM or IMAGES) onto the page. If some files lack an extension, pick just the .dcm files.
- 2Click an image in the grid. Adjust Window/Level with the sliders below; for CT use the soft-tissue, lung, bone, and brain presets.
- 3Use ▲▼ to step through frames in multi-frame files and ← → to move between series. 🖨 prints the current view.
What it shows
Tags are read with dicom-parser and pixel data is decoded directly. Uncompressed (Explicit/Implicit VR Little Endian) 8- and 16-bit grayscale (MONOCHROME1/2) and RGB plus JPEG Baseline compression are supported; Rescale Slope/Intercept is applied so CT window/level works in HU. Multi-frame files page through.
Files are read inside the browser only and never sent anywhere. Close the tab and nothing remains. Patient identifiers such as name and ID are not shown on screen.
Limits
JPEG Lossless, JPEG 2000, RLE, and JPEG-LS compressed images aren't supported yet and show a notice (some hospital CDs use these). There's no 3D reconstruction, measurement, or annotation. This viewer is for reference and is not a medical device for diagnosis.
Good for
Previewing a CD before taking it to another hospital, viewing scans on a Mac or phone, and picking images to capture.
Frequently asked questions
Where is the patient information?+
It's deliberately hidden, so a screenshot you share doesn't carry personal data. The file itself is unchanged and shows it in hospital viewers.
It says the compression isn't supported.+
The file uses JPEG 2000, JPEG Lossless, or RLE. Open it in the viewer on the CD or a free DICOM viewer such as Horos or RadiAnt.
Can I save an image as a photo?+
Print the current window/level view with 🖨 → Save as PDF. The viewer has no save button, and the original DICOM is unchanged.
