How to use it
- 1Drag in or select the DWG or DXF file you want to open.
- 2The drawing is fitted to the view automatically. Drag to pan and scroll (or pinch) to zoom.
- 3Use the layer list to show or hide individual layers.
- 4To change dates, click 'Change dates' and pick a new one. Every place that can change is listed with a preview.
- 5Select what to change, apply, then save in the same format as the original (DWG or DXF).
When it comes in handy
It helps when a client or contractor sends a drawing and you don't have AutoCAD installed.
It is also useful for opening a drawing quickly on a laptop or tablet while you're out of the office.
And it works on locked-down work machines where you can't install a CAD viewer, or on a Mac without a licence, when you just need to read the drawing.
What's the difference between DWG and DXF?
DWG is what AutoCAD saves by default. It is Autodesk's own format and its specification isn't published.
DXF is the interchange format, created so different CAD programs can exchange drawings, and its specification is public.
This viewer converts DWG into DXF structures inside your browser and then draws it. That's why both open here, and neither is sent to a server.
Some drawings won't open
DWG files from R13 (1994) onward are supported. Anything older opens once you re-save it from AutoCAD in a newer version or as DXF.
Both text (ASCII) and binary DXF are read.
Damaged or password-protected drawings can't be opened.
Changing the dates on a drawing
The date is what people change most often when reusing a drawing. 'Change dates' finds them all at once — title block text, notes, and the created/modified dates recorded inside the file.
The original notation is preserved. If the drawing says '2026-09-08', the new date takes the same shape; if it says '8 Sep 2026', that form is kept. Each drawing's own convention survives.
Where day and month order is genuinely unclear, like '08/09/2026', nothing is changed silently — it is flagged as 'Order unclear' so you can read the original and decide.
Saving gives you DWG back if the original was DWG. Dates that were exploded into lines rather than left as text can't be found.
One caveat: very old DWG formats (2000/2004) store text in a regional code page and may not be able to hold characters outside it. The saved file is read back and checked, and if characters were lost you are told rather than handed a corrupted drawing — save as DXF instead, or re-save the source from AutoCAD in a 2007+ format.
What may look different from the original
This viewer draws the drawing as seen from above, on the XY plane. A 3D drawing therefore appears flattened rather than in perspective.
Text is rendered with browser fonts instead of the CAD-specific SHX fonts a drawing may reference, so on screen the letterforms and spacing can differ from the original (the font settings stored in the file are left alone).
If something can't be shown — hatch fills, embedded images, or external references (XREF) — the viewer lists those element types under the drawing. It works well for reading content, dimensions and notes, and for updating dates, but for precise design review or checking against a printed original, the original CAD software is the safer choice.

Are my drawings uploaded to a server?+
No. Reading, editing dates, and saving all run inside your browser, so the drawing never leaves your device. That makes it safe even for confidential design files.
Can I view a dwg file without AutoCAD?+
Yes, that's the point of this tool. No AutoCAD and no separate viewer needed — it opens straight in your browser.
Does it work on a Mac?+
Yes. Windows, Mac, Linux, or Chromebook — any modern browser works.
Can I use it on a phone or tablet?+
Yes. It opens in mobile browsers with no app to install, and you can pinch to zoom. Very large drawings may be slow depending on the device.
Which DWG versions are supported?+
AutoCAD R13 through the 2018 format (AC1012–AC1032). Autodesk hasn't changed the DWG format since 2018, so drawings saved by the latest AutoCAD use it too and open fine.
Can I turn layers off?+
Yes. Click a layer name in the list to hide or show it. The number of shapes on each layer is shown as well.
Can I change the dates on a drawing?+
Yes. Dates written as text in the title block or notes, plus the created/modified dates stored inside the file, can be changed and saved back. If the original was DWG, you get DWG back.
Will changing a date break the drawing's date format?+
No. The original notation is preserved — '2026-09-08' stays in that shape, and '8 Sep 2026' keeps its own.
Can I edit text other than dates?+
Only dates for now. Any other drawing edits need your CAD software.
