Move the tables and numbers in a PDF into an Excel (.xlsx) sheet. Suited to sales sheets, statements, and grade lists that you need to recalculate or sort. Conversion runs inside your browser, so the document never leaves your device. Which PDFs convert cleanly, and which need a check, is explained below.

How to use it

  1. 1Select or drop the PDF.
  2. 2Click Convert. Tables and text on each page are moved into the sheet.
  3. 3Download the Excel file, open it, and check that cells match the original.

When it comes in handy

Totalling and sorting a sales or inventory table a supplier sent as PDF, moving card or phone statement lines into a budget sheet, or re-tallying grade and attendance lists.

It is far faster than retyping a table and cuts down on number typos.

Tables that convert well, and ones to check

Tables with clear lines, regular cells, and single-line headers come across almost intact. Tables with many merged cells or multi-line cells, and text aligned with spaces rather than a real table, can end up with shifted cells.

After converting, check that total rows are where they belong and that numbers didn't arrive as text (left-aligned cells are text). To fix that, select the column in Excel and convert to number.

Scanned PDFs

A scanned PDF contains pictures of text, so there is no data to extract. Run the Scanned PDF OCR tool first, then paste the text into Excel, or tidy the OCR output into CSV and use the CSV to Excel tool.

To check whether the PDF has real text, try selecting a number in a viewer.

Frequently asked questions

Are files uploaded to a server?+

No. Conversion happens inside your browser and the document never leaves your device.

Are complex tables converted accurately?+

Regular tables convert well; tables with many merged or multi-line cells can shift and need a check.

Does it work with scanned PDFs?+

Scanned PDFs have no text to extract. Run the Scanned PDF OCR tool first.

Numbers came in as text.+

Select the column in Excel and convert to number. This is common with thousands separators or currency symbols.

What about tables spanning several pages?+

Each page's tables and text are moved separately. A table that continues across pages may need joining and checking.
