APE (Monkey's Audio), WavPack (WV), TTA, and Musepack (MPC) are the formats of people who archived CDs losslessly. Browsers play none of them. This page converts these lossless files to MP3 on your device and plays them.
How to use it
- 1Click 'Choose APE files' or drop an album folder onto the page (WV, TTA, MPC included).
- 2Click a track in the grid and it is converted to MP3 on your device (progress shown). Lossless decoding takes roughly 10–30 seconds for a 4-minute track.
- 3Playback starts when conversion ends. ← → moves to the next track.
How it works
The APE, WavPack, TTA, and Musepack (SV7/SV8) decoders bundled in ffmpeg.wasm decode the file, which is then encoded to MP3 at 128 kbps. It's a temporary playback copy; the original lossless file is untouched.
Files are read inside the browser only and never sent anywhere. Close the tab and nothing remains.
Limits
APE at higher compression levels ('Extra High', 'Insane') decodes more slowly. Albums stored as a single file (.ape + .cue) play as one long track — cue sheets aren't read. WavPack DSD and hybrid lossy modes have limited support.
Good for
Checking an old lossless archive, hearing which album a file is before reorganizing into FLAC, and listening on a PC without a suitable player.
Frequently asked questions
I want to keep them as FLAC.+
Convert APE, WV, or TTA to FLAC in the Audio Converter tool and they stay lossless. Several files at once are fine.
One file holds the whole album (.cue).+
This viewer doesn't read cue sheets, so it plays the file as one track. To split, set ranges in the Audio Cut tool.
Is playback lossless?+
The playback copy is MP3, so no. It's fine for checking; for listening, use a player that supports the original format (foobar2000 and the like).
