Resize an Image to Exact Pixels — Set the Width and Height You Need
How to fit a photo to a required pixel size — ID photo specs, shop thumbnails, upload limits. Shrink without distortion using the ratio lock, and handle specs like 300×400 with crop plus resize. In the browser, no upload.
"Max 800 pixels wide", "exactly 300×400" — every upload form seems to come with a pixel requirement. No need to open Photoshop: type the numbers in the browser. The photo never goes to a server.
Steps
- 1Open Image Resize and drop in the photo.
- 2Type the width or height in pixels. With the ratio lock on, entering one side sets the other automatically so nothing gets squashed.
- 3Apply, pick the output format (PNG, JPG, WebP), and download.
Fitting a spec with a different ratio, like 300×400
If the photo's ratio (say 3:2) differs from the required one (3:4), resizing alone distorts it. Crop to 3:4 first in the Crop tool, then enter 300×400 in Resize. For ID photo specs, the ID Photo tool does crop, size, and background in one go.
Shrinking is safe, enlarging has limits
- •Shrinking: almost no quality loss. 1200–1600 px on the long side is plenty for the web.
- •Enlarging: pixels that don't exist have to be invented, so anything past 2× looks soft. If a small photo must be printed large, get the original instead.
- •If the goal is a smaller file size (KB/MB) rather than fewer pixels, use Image Compress — it keeps the pixel size and reduces the bytes.
Many photos at once
For dozens of photos at the same size, put the folder into Batch Convert and enter the size once. Photos with different ratios are fitted by their long side.
