How to Play a Video with SMI or SRT Subtitles (Without Broken Korean Text)
Got a video and a separate SMI/SRT subtitle file? Overlay them in a browser player — it auto-detects the legacy EUC-KR encoding common in Korean SMI files, and lets you nudge sync in 0.5s steps.
You have a video file and a subtitle file (SMI or SRT) on the side — but your player won't overlay them, or the Korean text comes out as garbage characters. Older Korean SMI files use a legacy encoding called EUC-KR, which trips up many modern players. A browser player solves both problems.
Overlaying subtitles — three steps
- 1Open the Media Player and add your video file.
- 2Add the subtitle file (SMI, SRT, VTT or ASS) — it appears over the video right away.
- 3Play, and pick a subtitle size (small, medium, large) to taste.
TipIf an SMI file shows broken Korean elsewhere, add it as-is — the encoding (EUC-KR or UTF-8) is detected automatically. No separate conversion needed.
Subtitles running early or late? Adjust the sync
When lines appear before or after the dialogue, nudge the sync in 0.5-second steps. It's a common issue when the video and subtitles come from different releases, and a few clicks usually lines them up.

If the video won't play at all
For codecs your browser can't decode, the player automatically tries to "get it playable" — a quick repackage when the codec is compatible, or an in-browser conversion when it isn't, then playback continues. Through all of it, the file never leaves your device.
