How to Sign a PDF — Add a Handwritten Signature Without Printing or Scanning

"Please sign and return" — printing, signing, and scanning is how it was done twenty years ago. Open the PDF in the browser, draw your signature onto it, and save: a minute's work, and the document never goes to a server.

Steps

1. 1Open PDF Sign and drop in the PDF.
2. 2Draw your signature in the box with a mouse (a laptop trackpad works) or a finger on a phone or tablet. You can also upload a ready-made signature or stamp image (transparent PNG).
3. 3Pick the page, then drag the signature in the preview to set its position and size. Repeat per page if needed.
4. 4Click Save to download a new PDF with the signature embedded. The original stays untouched.

Getting a clean signature

• •Mouse-drawn signatures come out shaky. Draw with a finger on a phone, or upload a typed signature image from the Signature Maker tool.
• •To use a signature signed on paper and photographed, make the white background transparent with Background Remover first — otherwise it covers the document text.
• •If a date or name is required too, draw it next to the signature or type it with PDF Edit Text.

Legal validity — an honest answer

This embeds a signature image in the PDF; it isn't a certificate-based digital signature that proves identity (like a national certificate or an e-signature service such as DocuSign). For documents where verifying the signer matters — contracts between companies, government filings — check that the other side accepts it. For consent forms, applications, and quote approvals, a signature image is usually enough.

Nothing leaves your device

Both the PDF and the signature are processed inside the browser. Not having to upload sensitive documents like contracts to someone's server is the point. Close the tab and nothing remains.
